Eugenikos, John

Eugenikos, John
Writer and deacon who opposed the union of the churches (q.v.) at the Council of Ferrara-Florence (q.v.), as did his brother Mark Eugenikos (q.v.). He attended the Council of Ferrara-Florence, and, like his brother, he refused to sign its decree of union. For this he was exiled to the Morea (q.v.). In addition to a polemic against the decree of union, he wrote hymns (q.v.), sermons, and a poem of lament (threnos) commemorating the conquest of Constantinople (q.v.) in 1453.
